Tenor Saxophone Solo Outro - Vamp Out Tenor Solo - featuring Greg Vail on the Tenor Sax
>> Smooth Jazz Classics on CD Baby - Got It Goin' on Greg Vail Music, 2008.
For more on this CD...
COMMENTS: Smooth Jazz Classics has 1 new original song on it - Got It Goin'. This clip is a piece of the Solo Tenor on the end of the Reprise clip, blowing to a fun Shuffle feel that has the energy of songs like Isn't She Lovely by Stevie Wonder and Revelation by the Yellow Jackets. I love blowing over this feel and the track turned out awesome for doing exactly that! This sax audio clip is from the album closer and is called a 'Reprise' since it is a restatement of the same song earlier on the CD, and features solo playing rather than the main melody this time. The performance for each solo is unique to this track and not the same as the solos found on the full song on the CD. It is a fun way to end the CD since the energy is great on this song. Hope you like it...

Tenor Saxophone Pop Ballad - Solo Section - featuring Greg Vail on Tenor Saxophone
>> Smooth Jazz Classics on CD Baby - Love's Gift (Tenor) on Greg Vail Music, 2008.
For more on this CD...
COMMENTS: Love's Gift was written by Tony Guerrero for my First Solo CD, Emotion, way back in 1995. The Emotion CD was later released on Greg Vail Music in 2002 with some new mastering and new artwork. The big hit of that CD was Love's Gift and was originally written for Soprano Sax and was recorded on Soprano on that earlier release. Over the years I have come to love playing it on Tenor Saxophone and that's how we recorded it on this new release - Smooth Jazz Classics. Tony Guerrero and I co-produced this CD and both agreed it would be fun to re-record this 'classic' Greg Vail hit with a new twist. This audio clip is from the Solo section of Love's Gift, performed on the Tenor Saxophone, new for 2008!

Tenor Saxophone Shuffle 12/8 Solo - Tenor Solo Section - featuring Greg Vail on Tenor Sax
>> Smooth Jazz Classics on CD Baby - Got It Goin' on Greg Vail Music, 2008.
For more on this CD...
COMMENTS: From the Smooth Jazz Classics CD, Got It Goin' is listed 2 times on the track list. This clip comes from the full song, solo section, and the other clip is from the Reprise heard at the end of the CD. The feel is a 12/8 Shuffle and the vibe is really fun, pop sax solo with some attitude. This solo was recorded weeks before the Reprise solo due to the fact that the Reprise was an after thought, after hearing the track sound so awesome, we wanted to come back to the party to end the CD. This solo is a little tamer than the Reprise Solos and it works great that way, in the context of the CD and overall feel.

Tenor Saxophone Ballad Solo - Short Solo Section 1 and 2 - featuring Greg Vail on Tenor Sax
>> Emotion on CD Baby - Within Your Love on CD Baby - Greg Vail Music 2002.
For more on this CD...
COMMENTS: Emotion was released in 1995 on BrainChild Records and re-released on Greg Vail Music in 2002. This clip is from one of my favorite ballads I have ever recorded, written by my friend Tony Guerrero and a highlight on the Emotion CD. The clips are 2 short solo sections in the style of Gato Barbieri; kind of growl and passionate in vibe. It is really short due to the fact the Tenor carries all the melody so there is little actual solo playing on the track.

Tenor Saxophone Pop Solo - Solo Section - featuring Greg Vail on the Tenor Saxophone
>> Emotion - Certainty Of Purpose on CD Baby - Greg Vail Music 2002.
For more on this CD...
COMMENTS: Medium Pop Rock feel, nice and Smooth track features a nice Pop Tenor Solo. I would say this solo was exactly what Smooth Jazz was before the turn of the century; very nice and very smooth!

Tenor Saxophone Contemporary Jazz Solo - Solo Section - featuring Greg Vail on Tenor Sax
>> Emotion - Straight From The Hip on CD Baby - Greg Vail Music, 2002.
For more on this CD...
COMMENTS: Smooth Jazz was a move toward more laid back in tempo and feel. Contemporary Jazz was what we called Happy Jazz back in the day. It was more upbeat and just dang happy. this clip comes from a happy jazz track off the Emotion CD and brings back memories of a glass of wine, sitting in the Jacuzzi with friends in the 90's. Contemporary Jazz Tenor Solo Clip.

Tenor Saxophone Pop Solo - Solo Section thru Vamp Out - featuring Greg Vail on Tenor Sax
>> Emotion - Just to See Her by Smokey Robinson on CD Baby - Greg Vail Music, 2002.
For more on this CD...
COMMENTS: Just To See Her was made famous by none other than Smokey Robinson. This track was released on Emotion in 1995/2002 and also Sax By Candlelight and Sax By Moonlight CDs later in 1996 and 1997 which sold in the millions. This Solo clip starts at the Tenor Sax Solo and rolls on thru the break down section and thru the Sax blowing around the vocals at the end of the track. This is classic Smooth Jazz sounds and feel.

Tenor Sax Latin up tempo - Solo Section - featuring Greg Vail on Tenor Sax
>> This Moment To Be Free - Love For Sale on Pawshere Productions, 2008.
COMMENTS: This up tempo version of Love For Sale really fly's and the Tenor takes a spin on this nice track by Cris Barber. I have recorded on a few of Cris's CDs and have seen each CD go to a new level over the years. I include this track because it is old school and Latin in feel and very different than many of the pop oriented tracks on the Tenor Audio examples and samples page here at Tenor Saxophone dot US.

Tenor Saxophone Fast Swing Solo - Solo Section - featuring Greg Vail on Tenor Sax
>> This Moment To Be Free - Moonlight Can Do on Pawshere Productions, 2008.
COMMENTS: This clip is pretty interesting to me because it shows how production can effect the sound of the sax. I don't hear me when I listen to this track. the style, tempo and dry room sound they got on the Tenor sounds really old school and not much like me at all. Funny thing is I really like it, just sounds weird to me. The tempo is screaming on this; I have no idea how fast that is but it is really fast! Swing, fast and old school in sound and approach...

Tenor Saxophone Fusion Solo - Live Concert Solo - featuring Greg Vail on Tenor Sax
>> Live KSBR BASH 2004 - Bumpin.
COMMENTS: This clip is an up tempo fusion, blowing solo from a Tony Guerrero composition, Bumpin. It was recorded at the KSBR BASH in 2004 and released on CD by KSBR radio station in Mission Viejo, CA. The tempo is screaming and the sound they got that day was very good.

Tenor Saxophone Sample - Solo Section thru Vamp Out - featuring Greg Vail on Tenor Sax
>> Live KSBR BASH 2004 - Louisiana Sunday Afternoon.
COMMENTS: This was a really fun live performance with Diane Schuur, 'Deedles' to her friends. Included in this clip is the Tenor solo section and the vamp out where Diane and I get to trade off a bit. She was a total treat to work with and I love this clip! It is a classic Diane Schuur song; enjoy...

Tenor Saxophone Contemporary Solo - Solo Section thru Vamp Out - featuring Greg Vail on Tenor Sax
>> Live KSBR BASH 2004 - Uh Huh.
COMMENTS: I worked with the Rob Mullins Band for over a decade and this clip is a live track recorded at the KSBR BASH in 2004. Featured is the Tenor Sax Solo and the outro thru the end of the song. The style is medium tempo and Pop or Commercial Jazz.

Tenor Saxophone Pop Ballad - Solo Section thru the end - featuring Greg Vail on Tenor Sax
>> Live KSBR BASH 2004 - Within Your Love.
COMMENTS: Within Your Love is recorded on the Emotion CD as a studio performance and the clip is included on this audio clips page. This clip is a live performance of the song, from the solo section - out.

Tenor Saxophone Rock Solo - Solo Section and 5 part outro from Shannon Kennedy's 2007 CD - featuring Greg Vail on Tenor Sax
>> Never My Love - Low Rider on Angel Eyes Music Creations, 2007.
COMMENTS: This Tenor track comes from a friends new CD, tracked at my home studio. The track includes 5 Tenor Saxophone parts and this clip shows off the Tenor Sax Solo and 5 part harmony section at the end of the track. This clip is my mix, with the sax hot in the mix and the effects set pretty aggressive. The final mix and master is not as flashy and sounds pretty different. When I can get the final up, I will include that clip so you can hear what I heard and what the mix guy heard, to get a feel for what someone can do to your track once you walk away from it. It sounds good either way, but I think it really grabs you in this clip.

Tenor Saxophone Blowing Old School - Solo Sections from Greg Vail's
>> Is It Christmas Yet? -- We Three Kings on GVM, 2004. more...
COMMENTS: This Tenor Saxophone solo and the blowing at the end of the song shows the full range of the Saxophone with the high Altissimo notes, false fingerings, Sax Growl (Singing and blowing at the same time) and Multiphonics (Raspy sounding notes that actually have a few notes sounding at the same time). This CD was tracked live in Studio.

Tenor Saxophone Pop Ballad with Cadenza - Last Chorus and Cadenza from Greg Vail's
>> The Gospel Truth -- Europa on CD Baby - Greg Vail Music, 2002. more...
COMMENTS: Tracked live in Studio, this track goes to the opera in a cadenza that is reminiscent of a classic tenor vocal from the romantic time period.

Gospel Tenor Saxophone - Solo Section and Outro from Greg Vail's
>> The Gospel Truth -- People All Over The World on CD Baby - Greg Vail Music, 2002. more...
COMMENTS: This Track was created using a live Gospel Concert performed at Saddleback Church with Greg Vail in the Horn Section. Rob Mullins sampled sections of the CD and created further loops with the Gospel Choir featured in sections and Greg Vail blowing all over the top. Tracked at Rob Mullins MuchTooLoud Studios.

America The Beautiful - Solo Section and Outro from Greg Vail/Rob Mullins CD
>> 911, We Remember -- America the Beautiful on RME/GVM, 2001.
COMMENTS: This track comes from a live Rob Mullins Band show featuring Greg Vail. Live, on stage, in Riverside CA. 2001. Recorded from a PA feed, Greg Vail on the ATM35 clip on, Rolls mixer and Quadraverb effects.

>> joyful noyz -- Newport Attitude on RME 1999.
COMMENTS: Tracked live at Saddleback College Television Studio, So Cal. The entire CD was tracked in an evening and features Rob Mullins and Greg Vail with the Rob Band.

Pop Tenor - Last Chorus with Greg Vail's growling Tenor and Soprano fills
>> The Gospel Truth -- Don't Give Up on CD Baby - Greg Vail Music 2001. more...
COMMENTS: This track has a pretty dirty sounding Tenor Sax in a Pop Ballad setting with the Soprano filling in and around the Tenor. Both Saxes played by Greg Vail and recorded for The Gospel Truth CD at Rob Mullins MuchTooLoud Studios.

Pop Tenor - Solo Section and Outro
>> joyful noyz -- Uh Huh on RME 1999.
COMMENTS: This track was also recorded live at Saddleback College Television Studios.

Hip Hop Vibe Tenor - Solo Section
>> Dance for the New World -- Bustin' Out on RME 1997.
COMMENTS: From an earlier Mullins CD, This track was a studio track, performed at Rob's studio.

Tenor and Upright Ballad - Solo Section
>> Is It Christmas Yet? -- Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas on CD Baby - Greg Vail Music 2004. more...
COMMENTS: This track is great for really hearing the Tenor Saxophone tone since the only other instrument is an Upright Bass. Is It Christmas Yet? was tracked live to tracks, on the stage at Saddleback Church in California.

Tenor Sax Turn Around - End Section
>> The Gospel Truth -- I Know the Plans on CD Baby - Greg Vail Music 2001. more...
COMMENTS: The turn around is a common way to end a song and featured here is repeated line that has a nice solo lick in the second to last spot. Gotta keep it fresh.

Tenor Saxophone Swingin' - Solo Section and Blues ending
>> Is It Christmas Yet? -- Santa Claus is Coming to Town on CD Baby - Greg Vail Music 2004. more...
COMMENTS: Swingin' with a blues feel, this track has a nice feel and good range from the Tenor Sax.

Bebop Tenor Saxophone - Blowing to the End
>> Is It Christmas Yet? -- Little Drummer Boy on CD Baby - Greg Vail Music 2004. more...
COMMENTS: This is pretty dang fast. Arranged to feature my favorite drummer, Bubba Bryant, this track fly's with some tenor multiphonics and altissimo with a few nice lines in between.

Old School Pop Tenor Saxophone - Solo Section
>> Live Show -- not released.
COMMENTS: This solo comes from a live Rob Mullins Band show. Featured is the solo section on an old school Pop vibe.

Standards Tenor Sax - Solo Section
>> Live Show -- Georgia not released.
COMMENTS: Georgia is a great standard and this solo section comes from a live show with the Rob Mullins Band and features Greg Vail growling and screaming pretty hard once it gets going.
